Zimbabwe is beautiful country and home to some of Africa’s most iconic features, the Zambezi river which cascades of the Victoria Falls, Marna pools national park, Lake Kariba and Mana Pools National Park make Zimbabwe study abroad opportunities vast and a plentiful. African Impact and Zimbabwe stay abroad bases in the Town of Gweru and Victoria Falls. We have been working in with Zimbabwe study abroad opportunities since 2002 and have over 70 staff on the ground to help support you every need.
Zimbabwe has had its fair share of political upheaval and in its recent history been characterized by technically a one-person ruler. Robert Mugabe has led this beautiful country to its victory of liberation in the 1980’s to its lowest economic low in the early 2000’s. Once the bread basket of the Southern African region, Zimbabwe now struggles to feed its own people due to severe droughts and the effects of a land reform program, which saw the (regulated) seizure of white-owned farms redistributed to landless black Zimbabweans, which led to sharp falls in production.
Cash-strapped and impoverished, Zimbabwe’s economy faces severe challenges. Unemployment and poverty are endemic and political strife and repression commonplace. Many Zimbabweans have left the country in search of work in countries like South Africa. Zimbabwe does have a very special place in the heart of African Impact, since it is where we were founded in 2004. We have introduced hundreds of volunteers to this beautiful country over the years and are proud to see the positive changes volunteering has made. We now look to further strengthen our impact through research and academic engagements in this country where community, wildlife, education, healthcare, conservation and development projects are available. African Impact look forward to welcoming you or your group on one of our Zimbabwean study abroad programs.
